My favorite pieces and the stories behind them.

Client / Time Warner Cable
Media / Pre-Roll, TVC
Challenge / Seed TWC as the service provider of choice for fickle college students
Idea / Product demos that appealed to the target's main interests: porn, video games and cute co-eds

The assignment was for one commercial, but we sold the client and the production company on three spots, radio and some collateral—tripling the ad budget. The client was tight on time and money. After pulling some favors, we decided to shoot and edit in LA. We were supposed to be gone for 10 days. We returned home 22 days later. And, I left two kids under four years old at home in NYC.

I managed not to lose my mind because my team was great and the work was going to be great. So, I focused on the outcome and called home as often as I could. It helped that I ended up missing my daughters more than they missed me. And, the nightly bottle of Lockwood Malbec we shared at Casa del Mar really helped, too.

I still can’t believe this spot was actually produced. The goal was to replicate sleazy porn from the 1970s. We knew we were onto something when we were skeeved out every time the actors came within inches of each other.

It felt so wrong, we knew it was right. Then, the client got cold feet. So it was never released, but at least she had the cojones to produce it.

On this shoot day, I became an expert in the NATO phonetic alphabet (thanks to my CCO who had served in the US Army.) We shot everything in-camera, at a park near Los Angeles. But, the magic of editorial and color correct added the authenticity of a video game. Chef’s kiss.

Fashioned after the iconic walk in the Mean Girls movie, our director was all about the intro for this spot. And, the casting was fantastic. We even chose some stars before they made it big. Can you spot them?
